Getting injured on the job can be a frightening situation, especially when you are the “bread winner” for your family. If you are injured on the job, there are a lot of things that need to be accomplished quickly, as well as a variety of factors to consider. At Straight Up Chiropractic, we believe an important part of our job as your family’s chiropractic provider is to inform you of what to do in case you ever are injured on the job. While it may not be an easy process to navigate, we are more than willing to help our patients during this difficult time.
Step 1: First, you need to determine the extent of your injuries.
How injured you are will determine what step you need to take next. If you are severely injured and are unable to walk away from the accident or have had a significant head injury, we recommend that you call an ambulance and seek emergency treatment immediately to assess the severity of your wounds. If it is an injury that you could walk away from and you don’t have a significant head injury, we would love to see you assess the extent of your injuries.
Step 2: You will need to let your boss know what happened.
You will also need to fill out an accident report. After you have done this, your supervisor or Human Resources representative will contact your Worker’s Compensation insurance and get a claim number. This is a very important part of the process and should be done before you seek medical treatment unless it is a severe medical emergency. Otherwise, this could interfere with the worker’s compensation coverage that you may be eligible to receive.
Step 3: Once you have a claim number, our office can treat you.
We will have a little more paperwork for you that is relevant to your injuries. Then we can get down to business, examining, diagnosing, and treating the problem to get you back to work or back to performing optimally. If you see another doctor first, once you are in the treatment phase of care, you can ask your them for a referral to see a chiropractic and visit us. It is crucial to keep in mind that with worker’s compensation coverage, you can see a chiropractor directly after the accident with no doctor referral. However, once a medical doctor has treated you, you will need a referral for chiropractic care.
We understand that this isn’t the most efficient or stress-free process for patients, which is why we strive to help simplify our end as much as we can. We also know that it’s important to advise patients on what to do in these circumstances, so that if they ever are injured on the job they already know what to do.
