While some chiropractors practice a variety of treatments that are not based in science, at Straight Up Chiropractic, we stick to the facts. So we don’t use crystals or vials, just straight up scientific-based chiropractic care. The truth is, chiropractic care is backed by scientific research that proves it is an excellent form of treatment for a variety of patient needs. As your chiropractic care providers, we feel that part of our job is to inform our patients about this research and keep them up-to-date on discoveries in the scientific-based chiropractic community. Learn more about this research below…
Chiropractic Care Is A Great Option For Acute & Chronic Pain
According to studies done by Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, patients with chronic low-back pain treated by chiropractors showed greater improvement and satisfaction than patients treated by general physicians. A majority of the chiropractic patients reported that their lower back pain had improved, in contrast about a third of the general doctor’s patients indicated that their lower back pain had actually worsened. This shows that chiropractic care offers patients a natural, drug-free approach to pain management. In the state of Oregon, your chiropractor can be your primary care doctor as well. You don’t even need a referral from a general physician to see one!
According to the American Chiropractic Association, 80% of Americans will experience some degree of back pain or spine discomfort during their lifetime. This means that regardless of the pain severity, there is a high that chance that you or someone you love will experience back pain and may consider chiropractic care as an option. This is why we believe it is so important for us to inform our patients and the general public about the research behind scientific-based chiropractic care.
Compared To Other Treatments, Chiropractic Care Stands Out
Studies by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, show that manual-thrust manipulation provides greater short-term reductions in pain compared with usual medical care. It also revealed that 94% of the manual thrust manipulation patients achieved greater than 30% reduction in pain compared with the 69% who received general medical care. This proves that chiropractic care does offer patients a better alternative to pain management while avoiding prescription medication.
According to a different study done by the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, chiropractic care reduced the odds of surgery for patients whose primary care provider was a chiropractor. In fact, the study showed that 42.7% of workers with back injuries who visited a back surgeon ended up having surgery, in contrast to the 1.5% of those who saw a chiropractor first. This study, along with many others, proves that chiropractic care is a beneficial alternative to invasive surgery for a majority of cases. While there are some severe cases that need surgery to treat a patient successfully, a majority of back injuries can be treated with chiropractic rather than surgery.
At Straight Up Chiropractic, we strive to offer our patients the best treatments we possibly can. This is on of the reasons we offer our patients a variety of treatment options, including both chiropractic and massage therapy.
